The Student Life Initiatives Project is a suite of co- and extra-curricular programs that provide opportunities to students across the Open Society University Network for connecting outside of the classroom.  With representatives from more than a dozen colleges and universities, SLIP offers students a chance to meet like-minded colleagues from around the globe and to work with them on a range of liberal arts and sciences projects outside of the lecture hall.

What We Do

The Student Life Initiatives Project consists of four programs:
  • Global Commons
Global Commons is a student-edited, biannual digital publication that features work created and developed by students from across the Open Society University Network.  Students are invited to submit works on any genre, on issues related to Sustainability and Climate, Inequalities, Human Rights, Global Justice, Global Public Health, Arts and Society, and Liberal Arts and Sciences.
  • OSUN Tutor Network
The OSUN Tutor Network brings together peer tutors and writing/learning center coordinators from across the Open Society University Network.  In addition to providing workshops, training opportunities, and certifications for peer tutors, the Tutor Network provides resources and support to colleagues starting or seeking to start tutoring centers on their home campuses. It also provides writing support to students enrolled in OSUN Online and Network Collaborative Courses, and maintains a resource bank of videos, guides, and other materials for students seeking support with writing, study skills, time management and other "soft skills" associated with university/college success.

  • Student Leadership Conference
The OSUN Student Leadership Conference is a multi-day, online conference open to all Open Society University Network students interested in developing or honing leadership skills and in meeting like-minded students from other campuses.  Participating students attend seminars, workshops, lectures, and networking events that give them the opportunity to study and practice leadership, to explore the range of cultural contexts in which leaders operate, and to work with colleagues from other campuses to develop cross-campus initiatives.
  • Student Government Retreat
The OSUN Student Government Retreat is a mutli-day, in-person conference for Open Society University Network students who are involved in student government on their home campuses and who are interested in exploring governance models.  Participating students attend seminars, workshops, and lectures about the potentials and pitfalls of local governance; participate in networking events in which they learn about other models of student governance and the cultural and political contexts in which they operate; and work with colleagues from other campuses to develop cross-campus initiatives.
