The Institute's agenda is interdisciplinary, with the research organized in four workgroups: the evolution and devolution of the rule of law; media, digital technology, and the organization of public spheres; inequalities and democracies; and the history of democratization and de-democratization. The Democracy Institute Open Platform provides an online portal to collect, analyze, publicize, and discuss facts on current processes of (de-)democratization. Through online modules, podcasts, summer courses, and research training, the Institute creates practical pedagogic resources for teaching and researching contemporary dilemmas and directions in democracy. The Institute recruits researchers, hosts visiting fellows, and creates partnerships with like-minded institutions working on issues of democratic decline and revival.
