Teachers Needed: Parami University Community Higher Education Initiative
Many students in Myanmar have had their education disrupted by the military coup of 2021. Because they have protested the coup by refusing to attend government-run universities, they have had to look elsewhere to pursue their higher education path. For students in urban areas with more access to alternative education programs, they can often find support and pursue scholarship opportunities. But students in more remote areas often have less access to opportunities. In response, Parami University is offering "Education for Further Studies," a course of study that supports students from minority backgrounds to pursue their higher education goals. The program will focus on writing for academic purposes, university application skills, and more.
Parami University is looking for student volunteers from the OSUN institutions to facilitate this synchronous online course. They will be trained by Parami University faculty so they can teach English to non-native English learners in displaced communities in Myanmar. The course will be 12 weeks long with 2 classes per week (3 hours per week) from January to April 2024.
Volunteer teachers will receive an honorarium and training based on their teaching experience. This is a great opportunity for students who want to become aspiring teachers and are eager to gain direct experience teaching English to young learners (aged 16–22) in displaced communities in Myanmar.
The goal is to pave the way for students who might not otherwise have an academic pathway forward, so they can apply to higher education programs.
Deadline to apply is Tuesday, October 31
