EHU Summer University Call for Participants
European Humanities University calls for participants in the Summer University on “Human Rights for Everyone: Restoring Justice. Case of Belarus." The Summer University will be offered online from August 9 to August 13.Demands to respect rights and human dignity drove protests in Belarus in 2020. In a country with almost 100 years of the Soviet and the post-Soviet era, where the concept of human rights actually reflected demagoguery and state propaganda, a significant number of people self identifying as rights holders is a great phenomenon.
In today's Belarus, legal regulations and interpretation of rights and freedoms are highly centralized and politicized. As a result, the extensive use of violence by enforcement agencies is followed by mock courts ruling against peaceful protesters. The trials are conducted with no procedural guarantees and usually result in long-term arrests in detention centers where ill-treatment and poor conditions are the norm.
What is the aim of the Summer university?
To increase knowledge about human rights and their defense; to encourage the participation of youth in considering/solving human rights issues; and to examine problems in delivering justice that protects individual rights via the application of constitutional/international provisions as normative frameworks.
Who can participate?
Students of Bachelor and Master degree programs in social sciences and humanities and arts with a level of English not lower than B2.
