Call for Proposals: OSUN Open Educational Resources Grant Program
The Library Resources, OSUN Online Courses, and Network Collaborative Courses Programs are seeking grant proposals for the OSUN Open Educational Resources (OER) Grant Program. The OER program supports strategic efforts to increase access, affordability, and diversity of course materials, and student success through the use of OER in the classroom. The OSUN OER Grant Program aims to empower faculty, staff, and students to collaboratively adapt and create teaching and learning materials that are reflective of the OSUN community and OSUN themes. The program welcomes proposals for the creation of pedagogy materials and scholarship that can be easily accessible through OER. It also supports original research on topics related to OSUN courses that can be brought into the classroom.
According to UNESCO, “Open Educational Resources (OER) are learning, teaching and research materials in any format and medium that reside in the public domain or are under copyright that have been released under an open license, that permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation and redistribution by others.”
Examples of OER can include materials such as articles, textbooks, presentations, teaching toolkits, case studies, documentaries, and instructional videos. Proposals are welcome from those who seek to develop an open syllabus, adopt OER, adapt OER, or create OER. We also welcome any other ideas!
Potential Project Categories:
Open Syllabus: Collaborate with a librarian to identify low-cost and open access readings to include in your syllabus and make it publicly accessible.
Adopt: Adopt an existing open textbook or open course content without making changes to the content.
Adapt: Update existing OER with major revisions, or develop custom course content from multiple open educational resources and original open content in order to support learning objectives not met by existing open resources.
Create: Create a substantially new OER where it is possible to demonstrate that quality resources are not currently available to meet learning objectives.
Other: Have an idea that you don’t see listed here? Tell us more about it.
Eligibility
Proposals are welcome from all OSUN community members, including instructors, librarians, support professionals, administrators, and students. Teams can include members that are not affiliated with OSUN.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be determined based on the scope of the project proposed and will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Faculty who complete OER projects are eligible for recommendations and comments that will assist in documenting achievement in teaching for promotion and tenure considerations.
Timeline
All projects must be completed by August 2024 unless a prior agreement is reached.
Requirements for Grant Recipients
Grantees agree to meet with the Director of OSUN Library Resources program to discuss their project, create and share a project plan, and complete brief mid-term and final reports. All materials will be licensed under a Creative Commons license and hosted in the OSUN Digital Repository. Creators will retain copyright to any materials developed and grant OSUN non-exclusive permission to use. All materials will adhere to OSUN accessibility requirements. Awardees must also agree to help collect assessment data related to student impact.
Evaluation Criteria
All proposals will be reviewed by a selection committee against a rubric that balances many criteria: impact on student success, impact on the OSUN community, design that considers accessibility & user experience, cultural relevance & inclusivity, feasibility of project, and contribution to the global OER community.
