Liberal Arts and Sciences Collaborative
Call for Proposals: Liberal Arts and Sciences Strengthening Guides
Deadline Expired on November 30, 2023
The LAS Collab is excited to announce an ongoing call for proposals for individuals, groups, and institutions to contribute to the creation of Liberal Arts (LAS) and Strengthening Guides. These are envisioned as publicly available technical documents that engage with best practices and lessons learned in LAS administration, curriculum, or pedagogy and that can be adapted and applied by LAS education practitioners from around the world.
The LAS Collab is actively seeking resource persons who may apply as individuals, groups, or institutions, to produce Strengthening Guides on topics of interest. Each Strengthening Guide grant carries an award of 1,500 USD.
The Liberal Arts and Sciences Collaborative (LAS Collab) supports establishing and strengthening liberal arts and sciences (LAS) institutions, particularly in regions that historically have had lower LAS representation. To this end, the LAS Collab is committed to spreading LAS education as a system of teaching and learning across the world. For LAS education to work as a system, there must be an enabling nexus of administration, curriculum, and pedagogy.
Suggested areas include:
Academic advising
Univeristy communications and admissions
Creating academic calendars, credit systems, and class schedules
Interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary, or multidisciplinary approaches to coursework
Interactive and student-centered approaches to teaching
The democratization of learning
Critical reading and writing
Creating syllabi, reading lists, assessment systems, and assignments
Interested individuals, groups, and institutions should submit a 1-2 page narrative proposal and a CV to
[email protected]
. Narrative proposals should include an overview of intended content, timeline, and product of the Strengthening Guide. Products may come in many forms, including handbooks, pamphlets, or video or audio material, and can be discussed with the LAS Collab team.
Each submission will be reviewed by the LAS Collab team and its working group on a rolling basis for Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring and will be evaluated based on how useful the proposed content and product will be for LAS education practitioners. Each Strengthening Guide should offer practical insights into strengthening one of three elements of LAS education, which include administration, curriculum, and pedagogy.
Applicants may propose content that they feel falls outside the above descriptions. Affiliation with the Open Society University Network is not a pre-requisite for submitting proposals to LAS Collab.
Any questions regarding the call for proposals for LAS Strengthening Guides should be sent to Gray Rinehart, LAS Collab Technical Lead, at
[email protected]
.
The LAS Collab is open to discussing proposals with prospective applicants prior to their formal submission.
Deadline to apply is Thursday, November 30
