Virtual Internship: Social Media for Climate Activism, Winter/Spring 2023

Deadline Expired on December 20, 2022
OSUN's Solve Climate by 2030 project is accepting applications for a Social Media for Climate Activism Internship for Winter/Spring 2023.

Gain valuable, practical experience working with students from across the world in the development, execution and assessment of a social media campaign in support of The Worldwide Teach-in on Climate and Justice, a global climate education project. This project seeks to engage half-a-million students and teachers in serious dialogue about the climate crisis in late March 2023. Interns will learn critical social media and organizing skills during weekly meetings and will become part of a network of young climate leaders developing close partnerships with sustainability and education professionals in their region.

The virtual internship runs from January 23 - April 3, 2023. Interns can participate from any location but must be available for group strategy meetings, presentations and online discussion every Monday for 90 minutes, either from 6:00 - 7:30 AM or 4:00-5:30 PM New York Time. Interns must commit to at least three additional hours of group and individual work per week, for a total workload of 5 hours of work per week.

As part of the program, interns are strongly encouraged to attend an online Youth Climate Summit on Saturday February 4th, 10 AM - 1 PM New York Time where they will meet with a global network of youth climate activists.

Note: This is a global internship, please consult a time zone converter to check correct meeting times for your region

We are looking for applicants who are passionate about using their voice for social justice, organizing via social media and who are comfortable working in small teams. We are also looking for those interested in learning how to better amplify their accounts on social media. All participants should be prepared to promote participation in The Worldwide Teach-in on Climate and Justice in their school and community.

Important: The social media campaigns will be executed via interns’ personal accounts on Instagram, Twitter or TikTok. Applicants must have a willingness to either use their own accounts, voice and platform to share information about the climate crisis and the Worldwide Teach-in OR have an interest in graphic design, video editing and general strategic support for those that are using their platforms to amplify the campaign.

The internship is not paid. English language proficiency is required. Interns who complete the 50 hour program will receive a certificate.

Interns can request letters of recommendation from Dr. Eban Goodstein, Director of the Bard College Graduate Programs in Sustainability, which sponsors the internship.

Please direct questions to Tobias Hess, [email protected].

Deadline to apply for the internship is December 20
