Summer Course, OSUN
Submit Course Proposals for OSUN-CEU Summer University 2024
Deadline Expired on July 1, 2023
CEU Summer University and Open Society University Network invite proposals for the 2024 Summer University Network (SUN) courses developed and delivered collaboratively by CEU and OSUN partner universities. Please feel free to refer colleagues outside CEU to our website who you think may be interested in being part of a team designing and running a summer course in collaboration with CEU and OSUN faculty members, and further academics and professionals.
SUN invites innovative, research-based and/or policy-oriented course proposals taught by a team of 5-7 outstanding faculty members, representing a wide range of geographical, disciplinary, and institutional backgrounds from CEU, the Open Society University Network, and
further invited faculty and experts.
The target audience is advanced BA, MA, and Ph.D. students, junior faculty and researchers, and professionals. The program offers a platform for debate, collaboration, and innovation across the sectors of higher education, policy, practice, and activism, and builds stronger and more durable linkages at the peer and institutional levels. SUN courses cater to the various needs of academic and professional development in the social sciences and humanities across a wide spectrum of disciplines.
The summer courses last one or two (consecutive) weeks offering 24 hours (1,200 minutes) per week of classroom work, complemented by independent reading and extracurricular activities.
The OSUN SUN course should be co-directed by a CEU faculty or staff member and a counterpart from an OSUN partner university, have a clear relevance to OSUN’s mission and address the following themes of priority within the broad fields of social sciences, humanities and liberal arts: Democratic Practice; Sustainability and Climate; Inequalities; Human Rights; Global Justice; Arts and Society; Global Public Health.
There are three options for proposal submissions:
OPTION I: Two-stage submission process with a simplified first stage and the provision of more materials in the second stage once the proposal has passed the first one.
1. Submission of a draft proposal, deadline:
May 3, 2023
2. Feedback on draft proposals by the SUN Board and the OSUN Committee, deadline:
May 30, 2023
3. Submission of the complete course proposal, deadline:
July 1, 2023
OPTION II: One-stage submission of new full proposals, deadline:
July 1, 2023
If a proposal author does not wish to take advantage of the two-stage process and receive feedback from the CEU Summer University Board and the OSUN Committee before submitting the complete proposal, the first stage of sending a draft proposal can be skipped.
OPTION III: One-stage submission of repeat full proposals, deadline:
August 14, 2023
Please contact SUN Executive Director
Eva Gedeon
for advice on applications and course formats.
