Liberal Arts and Sciences Collaborative
Call for Proposals: Liberal Arts and Sciences Research Articles
Deadline Expired on November 30, 2023
The LAS Collab has announced an ongoing call for proposals for individuals, groups, and institutions to produce LAS Research Articles. These are envisioned as fully-funded and published pieces of quantitative and/or qualitative work that furthers the collective understanding of LAS education. Each Research Article grant carries an award of up to approximately 2,000 USD.
The Liberal Arts and Sciences Collaborative (LAS Collab) supports establishing and strengthening liberal arts and sciences (LAS) institutions, particularly in regions that historically have had lower LAS representation. To this end, the LAS Collab is committed to spreading LAS education as a system of teaching and learning across the world. For LAS education to work as a system, there must be an enabling nexus of administration, curriculum, and pedagogy.
Interested individuals, groups, and institutions should submit a 1-2 page research proposal, budget proposal, and CVs of those involved to [email protected]. Research proposals should include, as is applicable, a brief literature review, research questions, a proposed research methodology, and a timeline. Budget proposals should identify any costs associated with the research.
Each submission will be reviewed by the LAS Collab team and its working group on a rolling basis during the Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring and will be evaluated based on how relevant the proposed research is for those who work in LAS education.
Suggested areas for research:
- how campus transformation for LAS education occurs
- the perspective of the state vis-a-vis LAS education
- the roles, perspectives, and experiences of LAS practitioners, including faculty, students, administrators, and academic support staff
- the relationships between LAS education and democracy
- the ways in which LAS education manifests outside of Western and Anglo contexts (non-Western genealogies of LAS education)
- how LAS discourses and messages are used and presented in different settings
- the ways in which LAS education has been and continues to be shaped by technologies
- the relationships between LAS education and STEM
Applicants may propose research that they feel falls outside the above areas. Upon completion of the research, the LAS Collab will work with interested parties to support publishing the research and offer opportunities to present research findings to wider networks, including OSUN. Affiliation with the OSUN is not a pre-requisite for submitting proposals to LAS Collab.
Any questions regarding the call for proposals for LAS Research Articles should be sent to Gray Rinehart, LAS Collab Technical Lead, at [email protected]. The LAS Collab is open to discussing proposals with prospective applicants prior to their formal submission.
Deadline to apply is Thursday, November 30
