Visual Storytelling for Civic Engagement 2023 Announces Student Awardees
A still from the video “First Pancake,” by EHU students Yanina Krytskaya, Marharita Tsibets, Alisa Shulha, Ksenia Miroshnikova, and Liliya Ilyina, honored for its achievement in cinematography.
Awardees have been announced for the
Visual Storytelling for Civic Engagement Film Festival
, the culminating event of OSUN's “Visual Storytelling for Student Engagement” fall 2023 Network Collaborative Course. Over 100 people attended the online event, which was organized by the class of student filmmakers and included award selections for 8 competitive categories.
A total of 25 student-made videos were featured this year from Bard College in New York, BRAC University in Bangladesh, the European Humanities University in Lithuania, HUBS at Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) in Kyrgyzstan, the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) in NY, and UniAndes in Bogotá, Colombia.
Course co-founding institution Al-Quds Bard was not able to participate this year, due to the ongoing conflict in Palestine.
“It was especially exciting to have new campuses join this year, including UniAndes from Bogotá, Colombia and the HUBS project at the Kakuma Refugee camp in Kenya," explained
Adam Stepan
, course founder and lead instructor, who first ran the course in 2020 with 14 students. The 2023 edition of the class had over 140 students enrolled from 9 different institutions.
"The film festival was an incredible journey through the important issues facing students' communities around the globe," says
Eva Egensteiner
, OSUN course instructor and Assistant Program Manager.
