Open Society University Network Supports Students Subjected to Police Violence  in Bangladesh

On behalf of the Open Society University Network (OSUN), we express grave concerns about the recent police violence on the BRAC University (BRAC U) campus in Bangladesh, an important OSUN partner. OSUN is a network committed to higher education. Violent assaults, including beatings and shootings, of students conducting peaceful protests on a college campus are incompatible with our educational mission. We express our support for BRAC U students’ right to make their voices heard through peaceful protests and reject violence as inimical to our educational mission.

BRAC U stands as a beacon of free inquiry, critical thinking, and international understanding. The university is working to instill in its students a commitment to contribute to Bangladesh’s development and progress. OSUN is dedicated to higher education and student civic engagement as long-term strategies to address local and global challenges. As a global network of higher education partners, OSUN expresses its support for and solidarity with the BRAC U community as it seeks to continue its vital work of educating the next generation of young leaders in Bangladesh.
