Beyond Undergrad: OSUN Institutions Offer a Wide Range of Interdisciplinary Graduate Degree Programs
“I was intrigued by the program's specific vision of arts that combines political participation and creative expression,” says Pankova, now deeply into her second year of the master’s. “In hindsight, it was a great decision, given that CHRA's curriculum continues to complement my formal and practical education in filmmaking.”
The Master’s in Human Rights and the Arts is one of many different master’s degree programs and opportunities for research and professional development OSUN students can access at an array of member institutions located across five continents. Many of the programs have a strong interdisciplinary aspect that is enriched by the range of international experiences students bring to the table. For example, the OSUN-supported Master’s in Global Studies, a dual degree from Central European University (CEU) and Bard College Annandale, gives students a range of conceptual tools and practical experiences necessary for a career in global affairs. Please see a partial list of programs linked below.
“Another distinctive feature of CHRA is the diversity of students' backgrounds: artists, activists, social researchers, and human rights majors, which allows for interdisciplinary collaboration,” says Pankova. “I would recommend this program for those interested in how art can be studied critically in relation to all the salient global issues: environmental crises, migration, state violence and wars.”
Akmaljon Akmedjonov, who studied international and comparative politics at AUCA and Bard College and then went on to pursue a Master’s in International Public Affairs at CEU, says the graduate program’s interdisciplinary nature exposed him to a variety of academic and professional opportunities, along with rigorous training in policymaking. He also describes the program’s courses and faculty as “high-caliber.”
CEU’s robust alumni network and career services support have been very beneficial to his development, he adds. “These resources have been instrumental in assisting students to chart their career paths, and I have personally received invaluable guidance from them,” says Akmedjonov, who secured top-tier internships with Access Now and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. “Besides, a degree at CEU enables students to go beyond their programmatic plans to be involved in wider OSUN initiatives that involve both professional and academic growth.”
