Lisa Katzman

Bard College

Lisa Katzman is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, screenwriter, journalist, and film critic. Her latest feature documentary, "9/11’s Unsettled Dust," premiered on PBS in 2021 in honor of the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Her films have been shown in numerous film festivals, independent theaters, exhibition spaces, and museums. Katzman’s films and journalism has been supported by grants from Ford Foundation, New York State Council on the Arts, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, The Nation Institute, and other foundations. Katzman worked as a consultant and writer for David Simon's HBO series "The Deuce". She has written several screenplays, including "Rachel and Gerard" for director Charles Burnett. As a journalist she has written about film, the environment, sex industry, food, politics, music for The New York Times, The Village Voice, Film Comment, Mother Jones, and other publications. Her film criticism and journalistic work is widely referenced in academic publications.
