Asma Abbas

Simon’s Rock at Bard College

Asma Abbas is Professor of Political Science, and Dean of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Al Akhawayn University of Ifrane, Morocco. She is also Professor of Politics and Philosophy, and Director of Transdisciplinary & Experimental Studies at Bard College at Simon's Rock. Abbas is the author of Another Love: A Politics of the Unrequited (2018) and Liberalism & Human Suffering: Materialist Reflections on Politics, Ethics, Aesthetics (2010). Her work has been part of several volumes, also appearing in Hypatia, Theory & Event, Democratic Theory, Journal of Politics, Politics & Culture, among others. A transdisciplinary political theorist interested in the history of forms of political existence and knowledge, she cultivates anticolonial & materialist politics & aesthetics, and commits to de-provincializing marginalized ways of thinking, being & knowing in the service of liberatory hospitalities, imaginations & worldmakings. She lives between Ifrane, Richmond & Karachi.
