Summer 2025

Thinking About Democracy

Dates: June 02, 2025 - July 11, 2025
Day/Time: Monday; Wednesday; Friday 8:00 AM - 9:45 AM EDT
Level: 100-Level
Certificate: Democracy*
Instructor: Christopher Henderson, American University of Afghanistan

The course aims to illuminate and encourage students to critically appraise democracy as a normative ideal and as a set of practices. This course will be centred around a series of dialogues between Jeffrey C. Goldfarb and colleagues focused on key short texts that will be discussed and analyzed further in face-to-face seminars, allowing students to question and probe the ideas therein. The goal is a more nuanced understanding of what democracy is/is not and could be.
