Comparative Philosophy

This course examines fundamental philosophical questions in metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics through an examination of different philosophical traditions. Our focus will be the “Western” and Buddhist philosophical traditions, with additional readings from Nyaya, Daoist, Africana, and Latin American sources. In addition to engaging with arguments from the text, students examine what philosophy is, what makes a philosophical tradition, and the value of cross-cultural learning.
