Because of its communal nature, theater functions as an agent for social and political change across the globe. We will study The Living Theater, Bread and Puppet Theater, and Brazilian director Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed as well as activist theater in participants' home countries. We will also engage in our own theatrical activism through group work and hands-on class projects.
