This course explores the birth, growth, and social implications of Afro-Brazilian religions. It focuses on the Congado de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, a religious resistance movement at the crossroads of Group Psychology, Gender, and Interdisciplinary Studies, social objectives, and constructs of the Afro-Brazilian communities. The course material leads to the African roots as innovative socio-political identity construction strategies. It is an ANTH 200-level course without a prerequisite.
